Now that we’re married, there’s little I look forward to more than attending friends’ weddings. And, now that I’ve visited Gracehill Vineyard Estate wedding venue, I’m counting the days until we revisit it for our friends’ wedding in February 2017. Kumeu holds a special place in our hearts as it’s a place we visited multiple times while planning our own wedding, from cake-tastings with PaulaJane cakes to a night away from the city at Rosebud Cottage. Only 30 minutes’ drive from Auckland city, Kumeu is an exclusive wine region home to wide open spaces of nature, rows of grapevines and beautiful wedding venues.
Gracehill Vineyard Estate is one such wedding venue, and it’s in equal parts unbelievable for its stunning situ and its remarkable affordability. Gracehill’s venue is unlike any wedding I’ve attended, with panoramic lake views and lush green manicured gardens, yet its price-point leaves nothing to be desired.
Talking to one of its owners Warren, it’s clear that Gracehill is very much a family business, which has been run by Warren, his parents and his wife for eight years. In that time, they’ve seen around 800 weddings, and look forward to each and every one. The transition between weddings is seamless, and the photos speak for themselves as to the each couple’s bespoke day. There’s so many picturesque spots around the classic venue: the rotunda, grapevines, bridge, and of course the wharf over the lake, should you be looking for a photo opportunity...
Inside the venue is just as special, though, overlooking all of the aforementioned. Perspectives Photo and Cinema kindly agreed to let me use some of their photos, and upon browsing their Gracehill galleries, discovered the wedding of Sarah and Andrew, whose wedding was the day before I attended, and I briefly met the gorgeous Sarah as she picked up her flowers (their photos first in the gallery at the bottom).
On the day we attended Gracehill it was being set up for a warm autumn afternoon ceremony under the rotunda, though after speaking to its owners, I’d be just as inclined for a winter wedding either in the gardens or inside within the venue itself. Auckland’s mild winters lend themselves to a Winter wedding perhaps more than anywhere else in the country, and this venue’s winter offer is well worth a second look.
Gracehill caters to weddings of anywhere from 30 to 200 guests, seating 120 comfortably in the Lake View room with flickering candles, fairy lights and twinkling winter skies. Just $100 per adult includes the venue hire, three course set-menu, $30 towards bar-spend, all catering and service staff, music and microphones, linens, chair covers and (it seems) almost everything in between (even next-day clean up). If you’re looking for a venue to take care of you, your guests and everything else, look no further.
The adjoining Vineyard Room provides a built in dance floor (and is a wet weather alternative). The venue is perfectly set up to go from ceremony and handmade canapes to the reception dinner, to the (all-important) dance-floor and cake-cutting, with no down-time or need for transport in between. For more than 120 guests, it also offers a cocktail-style event, and there’s even an option to have a Marquee wedding. It’s a really charming place, as are its owners, and is going to make for the most beautiful wedding of our good friends come February! Until then, though, contact Warren if you want to know more or snap up one of their few remaining dates.
